Just what Hala needed to start making. Something in between the 4.5" gummy fins that come with the boards, and the low-profile fins. Perfect for surfing and river running.
I'm really loving what Hala did with the latest revision of the Rado. They have made this board feel more like an Atcha, but with a HUGE carrying capacity. I regularly do overnight floats on this board with my dog. I'm pushing 200lbs with vest and safety gear, my dog is 60lbs, and I bring close to 100lbs of gear/food/beer. I spend most of my time on Class II water of Colorado and can't recommend this board enough for hauling a ton of gear in moving water.
Hi Kevin! Thank you for your awesome review of the Rado. Glad it's been serving you well on your overnight floats with your dog. We really appreciate your technical breakdown of exactly what we were going for with the design of the Rado - it's excellent for hauling a ton of gear in both flatwater and whitewater. Keep on adventuring and happy paddling!
The fin is not blue, it is black. False advertising, very upset.
The atcha 9 6 has been by go to board for most rivers. It is what I learned on and what I took on the Grand Canyon. It is stable and reliable. The newly designed 9 6 is extremely maneuverable, surfs even better than the old style and punches through waves seamlessly. A must have board! 10/10 recommend. The quality is insane and the customer service is stellar.
Have you tried to travel with an inflatable paddle board that has a traditional built-in fin box? If you know, it’s nearly impossible to fold up. That’s one reason I love my stomp boxes. It makes traveling and storing boards, when not in use a breeze!!!
Also, love how you seemingly slide over rocks without being thrown from your board!
Remember when you used to have to warn your paddle mates about rocks and shallow parts of the river so they wouldn't superman off the SUP when their board came to an abrupt halt bc it got snagged? NOT ANYMORE! This feature of Hala Gear SUPs (patented by HG) ensures you dont have to worry about snags. Go where you want! Check out what you want! Your fin won't hold you back ever again when you have one of these bad boys.
Iterated to perfection this Stompbox is boss!!! If you haven't paddled with a Stompbox, Do you even SUP bro? ;) Thanks to this brilliant piece of SUP tech I dont have to hollar back, "Finnegan" anymore!
Thank you so much for your review! We're thrilled to hear that our Stompbox has been a game-changer for your SUP adventures. We take great pride in our patented technology and are glad it has allowed you to explore without worrying about snags. Happy paddling! :)
I spent $1300 for one season primarily used on a class II river. I’ve been rocking paddleboards for 10 years on rivers and I am meticulous about caring for my gear but have a hole in the stomp box. Great when it worked but the durability is obviously highly questionable.
Hi Steve,
Really sorry to hear this, especially given your experience and how well you take care of your gear. That’s not the level of durability we expect from the stompbox or the board overall.
All of our boards are backed by a 5-year warranty, and we’d like to take a closer look and get you sorted quickly. I’ve reached out from warranty@halagear.com with instructions to file a claim. Once we have that, we’ll move fast to get you back on the river.
I have been a Hala athlete since 2015, and I wanted to share my enthusiasm for the new board design.
While my previous Hala Atcha featured extra rocker that performed perfectly in heavy whitewater, this new design’s more pointed nose is even better for slicing through large waves. It provides an ideal balance of stability, durability, and responsiveness. I have been sharing the board with fellow paddlers, and everyone who has tested it has gone on to purchase one for themselves.
With winter snow accumulation in Colorado at record lows, the Stompbox will be essential for extending the upcoming season. This patented system allows the board to navigate very shallow water effectively, making it an exceptional tool for the conditions ahead.
The stomp box on the Hala boards are an an amazing pice of kit for shallow technical rivers and has given me lots of confidence and avoided a lot of superman moments.
The fin box can be easily removed that has worked well when packing the board for flying and the components are easy to replace if they break.
The Stopbox 2.5 is one of those things I did not think I need as a paddler but I can tell you now I wouldn't trade it for anything. This unique finbox allows for a longer fin without the worry of catching it on a rock. The longer fin allows the board more traction and stability while providing superior tracking. Paddling without one is like taking a honda civic through the gnarlist 4x4 track imaginable.
Can’t argue with the results, it just makes so much sense for shallow UK rivers m. Gives the confidence to the paddler
The stompbox feature is one of the main reason I chose Hala boards when I run whitewater. I love paddling shallow technical rivers and the stompbox provides me with the confidence to shred and play my heart out without fear of the SUP fin hitting rocks. The system has gone through a few redesigns since its inception and is now better than ever. I highly recommend this product!
I love this board! It is super fun to paddle in all levels of whitewater. It tracks well and keeps its speed up yet is still quite stable. Probably not the best river surfer unless you can find a nice long wave but that's not what it is designed for. I load my dog, daughter, and food for all of us this for lazy Class 2 floats and also paddle Class 4 on it.
Why have a Ferrari without a steering wheel? Performance is a partly a result of trust in your gear performing and the stomp box gives me the confidence to drive through big pushy water or shallow tricky water without worrying about getting shot off the front. You also don't need to worry about losing fins or breaking fin box on those manky rivers.
This fits and looks good. I’ve had a couple friends who’ve asked for it!
Riding in Alaska we are on a lot of creeks and glacier streams. Without the stomp box, we would be unable to ride this water or be spinning around like tops.
It also comes in handy surfing in the ocean! Feeling confident your fin won’t cut someone!!
I haven’t seen any rust or issues riding with it in salt water!
This stomp box is made with extremely high-quality materials and makes paddling shallow rivers, easy peasy. I never have to worry when paddling over a shallow rock that I will go flying off my board. 10/10 Recommend
I have used the hala boarda in acotland, montenegro, spain, England, America etc for the last 5ish years now and truly the stompbox is a game changer. To have thw retractable fin means I dont need to worry about hitting rocks but I still have all the benefits of tracking and stability from the fin system.
It is easy to turn the spring around every now and then to maintain springiness if thats a word...
The only advice is dont paddle it backwards in shallows as the stompbox doesn't take a backwards hit so try not to get spun around in the shallow sections too much.
The Radito has been a great board to paddle out in Nepal, on the high-volume and technical rivers. The Radito combines long board speed, getting me where I need to be on the rapid. With edge and rocker control to make those quick line changes mid-rapid when it counts.
Can't wait to continue to paddle this board in Scotland, it has definitely become one of my favourite boards to paddle.
As far as boards for big whitewater adventures go, the Hala Radito is the golden ticket. Its 10' length lets you hold speed as you drive across the river hunting for the perfect line, while the generous nose rocker not only punches through holes and glides over boils, but also gives you the ability to carve confidently into complex eddies. It’s a board that rewards commitment, keeps momentum, and feels built for the dynamic chaos of real river environments
Some say a paddleboard is just a board. Those people are wrong. Tha Hala Straight Up is a partner, a therapist, a friend. This is the first board that has truly understood me. I yell, I flail, I panic… and it stays steady, calm, and reassuring.
If you need to bust through rapids, there’s no rapid the Atcha can’t bust through. It’s a master rapid buster. Wam, bam, thank you Hala! Five stars.
Wow. What an amazing board. I just took it to the lake, and that thing move super smooth and fast. Love it. Can't wait to try it on the river.
Thanks so much for the awesome people that work there. I order the wrong board and after I did used it once, they were super helpful to get me on the right board. Thanks so much
We're stoked that you are loving your Rado! Glad we could help find the perfect board for you.
Most SYP's ship with an open water fin. This one works great for river touring where there are shallows to contend with. Adds adequate directional stability for paddling, because a SUP with no fin is essentially unusable!
Thanks for the review! We're stoked to hear that this stubby fin has allowed you to explore shallow rivers while still maintaining some control.
