Premium Construction & Intentional Design
Built Different: Hala Gear Construction & Technology
Every Hala inflatable SUP is engineered from the ground up for real-world performance. We obsess over materials, construction methods, and design details so you can focus on the water. Here's what goes into every board we build.
StompBox 2.0 — The Retractable Fin System That Started It All
The StompBox 2.0 is Hala's patented retractable fin system and the feature that defines our river boards. With a simple heel stomp, you retract the fin flush with the board—letting you slide over shallow rocks and drops that would snap a traditional fin—then stomp again to deploy it for directional control.
StompBox 2.0 improvements over the original include a re-optimized fin box geometry that improves tracking and surf performance, plus tighter tolerances for a more responsive deploy and retract feel. It's the reason whitewater paddlers choose Hala over anything else.
All river-series boards—the Rado, Radito, Atcha 96, and Atcha 86—are equipped with StompBox 2.0.
Fusion Drop-Stitch Construction
Our boards use thick fusion drop-stitch technology—thousands of high-tension polyester threads bonded between two PVC skins. When inflated to 15–18 PSI, this creates a board that is rigid, light, and extremely resilient. Unlike traditional glued drop-stitch, fusion bonding eliminates delamination failure points and significantly extends the life of the board.
The result: a board that paddles like a hardboard, packs into a bag, and lasts for years of aggressive use.
Glued + Welded Rail Construction
Hala boards are built with glued and welded rails—a dual-process construction method that bonds the side rails to the deck and bottom layers using both adhesive bonding and heat welding. This is the strongest rail construction available on an inflatable SUP and is the primary reason we can confidently offer our 5-Year Warranty.
Many lower-cost inflatables use glued-only construction, which is more prone to rail separation over time. Hala's glued+welded process means your board holds up to river rocks, UV exposure, saltwater, and years of hard use.
High-Quality Materials Throughout
We don't cut corners on materials. Every board uses:
- Military-grade PVC — UV-stabilized and tested for puncture resistance
- Stainless steel D-rings and hardware — rust-proof in fresh and salt water
- EVA diamond-groove traction pad — full-length for stability in all conditions
- High-pressure valve — compatible with our 12V pump and hand pump systems
Designed for Performance, Built to Last
Every design decision at Hala is made with a specific paddling purpose in mind. From the nose rocker profile to the tail volume, from the fin box position to the gear rigging points—everything is intentional. We test our boards in real conditions on real rivers before they ever reach your door.
Backed by our industry-leading 5-Year Warranty, you can paddle with confidence knowing your board is built to last.

Woven Dropstich
To make our lightest boards more rigid without adding stringers, the Hoss and Straight Up use a premium woven ropstitch core material. This material is durable, lightweight, and rigid, meaning your all-water board is ready for anything.
We've thoroughly tested materials and construction methods and found the perfect combination of lightweight durability and premium construction. Our Thick Fusion Construction + Welded Bonded Rails make lighter, more durable inflatable SUPs (and allow us to extend our warranty). Find out more below.
Hala Gear
The rigidity of a hard board
Our boards are lighter and more rigid than ever before!
Hala designs gear for people who demand a lot from their equipment, so our SUPs are as lightweight as they are durable.

Thick Fusion Construction™
We use a Fusion construction and the most innovative material for a lighter and more durable board. Hala SUPs use our new unparalleled stacking + bonding
process, to create a tougher board that lasts longer and is more sustainable for the planet and your wallet.
THICK FUSION CONSTRUCTION
is our high-end, multi-coated Fusion Drop Stitch, that makes our river
boards lighter and just as durable. Each board is constructed to withstand drops, rocks, and roof racks. Our thicker, more robust fusion creates abrasion-resistant boards that can withstand any environment. We were able to use less material by utilizing a new manufacturing technology that lends itself to lightweight and highly durable boards.

bonded + burly
Third Seal Bonds
Hala Gear glues and welds the seams on every SUP board. Glue alone will deteriorate over time, so we added a third WELDED SEAM. Welding, a mechanical type of bonding, provides longevity and durability that stands the test of time and temperature for years. You can trust your Hala Gear SUP, because we don't cut corners on any aspect of the board.
