Whitewater Boards

Whitewater Boards

Hala Gear has been building inflatable whitewater SUPs since 2011 - longer than any other brand in the sport.

It started with a board people thought was crazy: 6 inches thick and 35 inches wide, designed to hold its own in moving water when everything else on the market was built for flatwater. We called it the Hoss. That stability-first philosophy - setting paddlers up to succeed before asking them to push limits - is still the foundation of every river board we build.

As paddlers leveled up on that wide, stable platform, we went further. More than 50 prototypes and years of obsessive river testing produced the Atcha: a 9'6" x 36" inflatable whitewater SUP whose dimensions became the template the entire industry eventually adopted. In 2015, we patented the StompBox retractable fin system and solved the sport's central problem - fins that catch rocks and stop boards dead in rapids. Competitors have built retractable fins since. None use active downward spring pressure to hold the fin at full deployment the way the StompBox does.

Independent reviewers have called the Atcha 96 "quite possibly the pinnacle of design for intense whitewater paddling" (Inflatable Boarder, 2025). Over a decade in, we're still the benchmark. Not sure which board is right for you? Read our complete buying guide.

Charge Series: Technical Whitewater

Charge Series boards are shaped for paddlers who want to push their limits on moving water. High rocker profiles, surf-inspired outlines, and the patented StompBox fin system give you constant tracking power through technical lines. Gravity-fed retractable fins rest at less than full deployment, so current passing the fin makes it bounce - costing you control when you need it most. The StompBox uses active downward pressure to keep the fin fully deployed at all times, deflecting off obstacles automatically and snapping back to full depth instantly. Better ferrying, better surfing, more efficient strokes.

Adventure Series: River Expeditions and Fishing

Adventure Series boards are built to take you further. Greater volume, flatwater-to-river versatility, and expedition-ready rigging points make these the choice for multi-day floats, remote canyon runs, and paddlers who want a single board that handles a calm morning lake paddle and a technical afternoon descent. The Rado is also our top pick for SUP fishing - rig it with a cooler and rod holder and you have everything you need.

Find the Right River SUP

How will you paddle?

Stomp or cruise

All of our boards are great on the river, but are you looking to crush rapids or float leisurely?

We make our line of Atcha SUPs to crush whitewater, allowing you to stomp and play in Class 3 and Class 4+ rapids. If you're more looking to cruise Class 2 and Class 3+ rapids with a bunch of gear strapped to your SUP or you want to bring your doggo or child pup along, you may be more interested in our Rado or Radito.

Which paddle will you choose?

Our Hala Carbon Adjustable Travel Paddle is a high-quality, TOUGH paddle with a carbon shaft, tough fiberglass blade, and LeverLock™ Adjustable handle to help you dial in the right length. This paddle will look good and perform well. So grab your life jacket and get out there!

Streamlined Surfer or downriver Stomper?

Atcha 86 or Atcha 96

The Atcha 86 and Atcha 96 are very similar boards. However, the 86 is a more streamlined river surfer, built to be playful, stable, and sporty. The Atcha 96 is a more versatile downriver machine that can haul more gear and stomp bigger lines with more stability and confidence.
